Professor Irene Grant
Prof Grant is a Professor of Microbiology and Food Safety at Queen’s University Belfast. She has been researching Mycobacterium avium subsp. paratuberculosis (MAP), the causative agent of Johne’s disease, for over 25 years. Originally her research related to the efficacy of pasteurisation with respect to inactivation of MAP in milk, but in recent years her focus has been on developing improved methods for the detection of viable MAP in veterinary specimens (bovine milk principally, but also bovine faeces and blood). Prof Grant has published extensively on the topic.
